my doctor prescribed me Chantrix yesterday too, i cant afford it tho and my insurance doesnt cover it

Compare the cost of Chantix to the monthly cost of cigarettes. The pills are cheaper than the smokes! I went through a carton a week at $40 per. Thats $160/month for the smokes. I am not sure what the full price of Chantix is since my insurance covers all but $30/month but I would assume it's less than $160.

Gary, Just wondering.. How many packs are in a cartoon. I don't smoke so I never need to buy any

I'm thinking that Larry may start smoking again very soon. Cat number 6 turned up on our doorstep last night. Flea bitten, half bald and very bony - isn't more than 4 months old. Poor little mite, couldn't leave it outside in the cold.

Hubby of course is due back from his biking weekend in a few hours...wish me luck!

Yo

Congrats to you recent former smokers.

I quit 10 years ago using the patch (which now seems old-school compared with all the newfangled stuff available now) for two weeks, drinking a lot of coffee, and working out nearly every day. The patch made me jittery but definitely took care of the initial cravings. Some people say that trying to make too many changes at once, like quitting smoking and beginning an exercise regimen or new diet, can be overwhelming and thus counterproductive, but I found exercising to be really helpful for two reasons: (1) it was a good way to release physical anxiety and lessen cravings, and (2) I could feel the improvement in lung capacity and stamina within days (no more getting winded running up the stairs!). Exercise also helps to keep you from gaining the dreaded "wow, I can taste again" weight. I found drinking a small cup of strong coffee or espresso to be a good substitute for the post-meal cigarette.

I know that how one manages to quit smoking is a highly individual thing, but I figured I'd add my experience. I'm so glad I quit. Even though it's been so long and I only smoked for about seven years, I still think about smoking and occasionally have a guilt dream that I lit up. Crazy!

Good luck!

~Julie
