Traveling with maiden name in passport

Good morning everybody,

I need some help. I am planning to fly to Germany in November. I work for an Airline and could get a discount on my ticket but my problem is that I thought I need to book my flight in the name what appears in my passport, but to get the discount I would need to book the ticket in my married name since this is the name on my work ID.

Would I be all right to book the ticket in my married name since it is on my Drivers license, Social Security card and Grenncard or do I have to book it in the name what appears in my passport??

I'm really confused now, but need to book the ticket very soon before the prices go up.

Would appreciate any help!

Thank you!

Nina

My understanding is that you have to book your tickets in whatever name is in your passport and bring evidence like a copy of your marriage license to show the name change. Also your GC of course. Or your AP. The only thing I would suggest is finding out 1) if your employer for this time will allow you to book tickets in your maiden name if you explain your circumstances, or 2) finding out how long it would be to get your name changed in your passport to your married name. The whole maiden/married name is because of the passport. Maybe you could go to an embassy in the US and get one part changed? I'm unsure of this, but perhaps your Embassy could advise.

Best of luck!

What are the rules of your airline about booking in a name other than that in the passport.

When I worked at Heathrow on border control it didn't matter to us what name was in the passport as long as it was for the passenger presenting it and it was valid. The name on the ticket only came into play if the person needed a return ticket as part of the entry conditions, this was so common that it was accept as a valid reason for different names on the two documents.

The airlines had their own rules. BA for example say the name must be identical, Virgin Atlantic allow a difference of three letters. Other airlines will be OK with a supporting document like a marriage certificate.

As there is no immigration control leaving the US or Germany only the airline is going to examine your ticket and passport together. I certain when I flew out of Frankfurt last the security only checked my boarding card before allowing me to pass through.

I had to book my ticket in my maiden name, since that's what's in my passport. I took my marriage license along, to explain any questions arising from my greencard being in my married name, yet it wasn't asked for. I don't think they'll let you fly if your ticket name doesn't match the passport.

For your special case, you might want to inquire internally with your airline colleagues and see if you can get the discount in your maiden name.

BOOK it under your MAIDEN NAME.

Talking from experience, my wife was traveling to Dublin and had to go to Dusselforff thereafter, from here to Dublin there wasn't too much problem since she had the marriage certificate, but when she got to Frankfurt they gave her a hard time to the point on the way back the company Had to Reissued her ticket under her Maiden name and she traveled back without any problem.

We went to cancun, booked under maiden name, but they didn't even ask for marriage certificate, don't worry about the name difference, once you give your green card along with your passport, they can see all of your info on the computer screen.

Thank you all so very much. I booked a ticket in my maiden name with an other airline, since they made such a big deal...Oh well safed the same amount of money then I would if they gave me the discount. I will take my marriage license with me and hope not to get into any trouble. As soon as I get back from my trip I will send in my passport to get a new one, I just think they make everything so complicated...
