Yar, that was the case when I went to the RCMP detachment in Vancouver. Depending on where one goes to get the police certificate (whether it be from RCMP, Commissionaires, or local police station) the packet 4 letter may be needed to prove that it's needed for documentation.

On another note, seems like the RCMP likes to charge people differently for their police certificates. I had to pay $40 for mine. -_-

Same for me in Greenwood NS. They didnt care what paperwork I briought them, so I just printed off a page from the USCIS website.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Hey All, one question do we need the finger prints with the certificate or not I read somewhere that it wasn't needed at this time just the clearance cert. TRUE/FALSE!

Went to FT McMurray RCMP the other day, they said for most of the ones that they give require finger prints,

but I don't need proof of reason for needing it the cost is $15.90 and can have it in 5 business days, but really would like to know for sure it finger prints are need with this certificate,so can anyone respond it would be greatly appreciated!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone and lets hope for MORE approvals!

Hi Laynie,

If the beneficiary has a criminal record you will need to get the fingerprint version. If no record - then the Canada wide name check is just fine.

Thats so silly. They want the interview letter to give him the Police Certificate. Which, he won't get an interview date without that Police Cert documnet being sent in first. Like others have said, tell him to take his paperwork that he received in with him. Thats what I did, and I highlited exactly what NVC wanted, she read it, and said OK.... Mine was $40 in Vanc, which I just had to renew and pay again.......

For K-1 (not sure if it is different for the spousal visas), you only have to send in the checklist stating that you have the police check completed(as one of the documents required to show at the interview). Now technically, one COULD say that the police check is complete, send in the checklist, and go for it after the interview letter is sent.........or one could try another RCMP detachment. :)

Ah, gotcha! Thanks. Yes, for my IR-1, I had to send in my Police Cert long time ago, along with other stuff they asked for, in order to move to the next step.
