Two of my close older relatives have recently approached me saying that they are considering their mortality and would like to be cremated when they die and have their ashes scattered in the waters of the Swedish Archipelago, which is an area they have visited many times and are apparently quite attached to (both are USC's).

Does anyone know anything about the logistics of such an endeavour?? Is it legal to do this?

Any insights or links to more info would be most welcome...

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

You can easily do this. At the funeral home just make the normal arrangements for the cremation and state the wish of the deceased was to have their ashes spread at a certain spot. There are special forms that need to be filled to carry cremated human remains on an airplane, but once this is done you just make your travel arrangements, seal the urn tight and carry it to the destination.

It is indeed legal to do so in Sweden, but you will need a permit when the ashes of a deceased are to be spread in an area that's not designated for it, like a "memory grove".

Contact "Länsstyrelsen" in the län (county) where they want their ashes spread, and how to get a permit to do so. It is possible that the permit can't be given until the person(s) is/are already deceased, but I don't know the specifics there.

Here is the page for spreading ashes in Stockholm (and the Stockholm archipelago) with a link to the application form in pdf http://www.ab.lst.se/templates/InformationPage____2660.asp
