Ok, so here it goes.....

Almost a year ago we filled for AOS and EAD. The EAD got approved and I am currently working a wonderful job. My AOS got transfered to CSC which I thought was a good thing.....well, it wasn't. In April of this year they last did something with my AOS as I can see by logging into the uscis website.....unfortunatly it doesn't say what they did. Does anybody know what to do next? I have no time for the infopass stuff 'cause I simpy cannot miss any time off at work. Is there any other way to get in touch with someone at the USCIS to get some answer to why it is taking them so bleeping long? I now have to renew my EAD and pay 340 dollar if I am not mistaken? Please correct me if I am wrong because right now I am completely lost with all the things I should do and stuff. Forgive me if I don't make a whole lot of sence, but I am just extremely frustrated about the whole situation.

AOS can take months to years depending on background checks. Only info-pass will give you any idea what the hold up is, probably waiting for an FBI Name Check.

I know of some that have renewed EAD 1 and 2 times waiting for AOS to complete.

That article is about citizenship isn't it? I know about the whole FBI name check stuff. I can understand they need to do thorough background checks, but it's not as if I am from a high risk country or whatever. I am just extremely frustrated that since they are so bleeping slow I will have to come up with another big amount of money to renew my EAD. It's frustrating that you do everything by the book and all you do is wait , wait , wait. :(

Hey two questions what was the date you filed????? I waiting 11months and we finally got her GC from the CSC
We filed in May, and received GC Sep. Again there is no predictable timeline for AOS, Name check is the random factor.

That is awful and unfair! :protest: And yes, you will have to file for extension of the EAD because there is no telling when the AOS process will be done. :crying:

YuAndDan gave good links about the process. There is another recent link giving some phone numbers, maybe you could try and get the reason of the long process.

Unfortunately there are others here on VJ who are on their 4th EAD renewal. As mentioned before the only reliable way you will get information about your case is via an Infopass appointment.

Name check hell is very real for AOS and unfortunately it sounds like it is exactly where you are at the moment; your country of origin has no effect on the length of time it takes.

I don't mean to sound like a jerk but good luck cause you're going to need it. FBI background check is the worst thing ever. They don't care who you are and if they need to, they will take however long they want. 2 years 1/2 and still waiting. info pass is useless because they wont tell you anymore then you're on background check. The only thing you could do is send a letter to your congressman and ask him to look into your case maybe? i don't know. Also as for EAD you need to pay to renew it yes.

Well, I am pretty sure the FBI don't take ages on purpose. It isn't like they pull out your name and start checking it and then half way through say "Ah to hell with it, this buggar can wait for 8 months, bwahahahahah!" and so on. I simply think they are overwhelmed and their system sucks big time.

And yes, in this case an Infopass WILL help, simply because the OP doesn't know what is going on with his/her case at all. We are presuming he/she is stuck in name check, but he/she does need to get this verified as the update that happened last April is a little sketchy. For all he/she knows there might have been an RFE sent out. *shrugs*

Can anyone tell me what I need to do exactly for the EAD renewal? Been reading about it, but now I am confused  . As for the whole AOS-hell.....I am going to call USCIS again on Monday. I have been put through to a field officer once before so who knows..... If it's still not working that way I guess I have no choice then to make an infopass appointment.....sigh. This whole process is just so frustrating because by still waiting for the bleeping greencard so much stuff has to be put on hold and it is causing also quite a few problems with things as insurance etc.....sigh
