Hi ... just found these forums and wish I had earlier! Anyway, I have a question.

My wife just got her driver's license. But, it expires on the day her I-94 expires (like 2 months from now).

Has anyone gone through this before? When can you extend this date?

We plan to file for AOS next week.

Thanks!

Depending on your state, you can extend it when you have your NOA for AOS, EAD or green card.

Filed AOS from F-1
Green Card approved on 01/04/07
Conditions removed 01/29/09

Same thing here in North Dakota. I went to get my license and they told me that it would expire on the date my I94 expires....couldn't have that because my Canadian one expires the same day!!! (my b'day..lol) Anyways the DMV lady suggested I just keep my Canadian one and renew that via the mail....then once I get my green card then I can apply for my brand new shiny one from North Dakota.

Oct 1/09 - I-751 package sent

Oct 3 - package delivered

Oct 5 - NOA mailed

Oct 13 - 1st NOA received and additional letters for my daughters I filed with. NOAs stated Resident Status

has been extended for 1 year and that we will be receiving a letter for an ASC appointment for

fingerprints, photo, and signature.

Dec 2009 - Received 10 year permanent resident card.

Feb 2010 - My children received their 10 year permanent resident cards.

Oct 2010 - My children were legally adopted by my USA Citizen husband.

Won't you need to go back to renew it? (Because they need to take your picture.) Or does your province have a different policy than Ontario?

Yes, she'll have to renew it when she gets the EAD or green card, whichever comes first. She won't have to retake the tests or anything, just pay another--is it $15?--for a license that will expire when the document expires. Unless your AOS/EAD applications are processed really quickly, she'll likely have a gap between when the license expires and when she can get another one. We went through this w/ my husband--he was between EADs for a few weeks and drove w/o a license. Fortunately, the car insurance was still in effect for him because we're married, although it could have been problematic if he'd been pulled over.

Sorry to ramble, I hope this info is of help! (We live in Phoenix.)

K-1

March 7, 2005: I-129F NOA1

September 20, 2005: K-1 Interview in London. Visa received shortly thereafter.

May 5, 2006: Interview at Phoenix district office. Approval pending FBI background check clearance. AOS finally approved almost two years later: February 14, 2008.

Received 10-year green card February 28, 2008
