Bringing my son adult

Hello all,I would like some immigration advice from the community. I came to the US in 2012 on a K-1 visa. In 2017 I became a U.S. citizen and have been living in the USA with my husband, who is a native U.S. citizen (we have been married for 14 years). Now we are thinking of bringing my adult son, along with his two children (ages 17 and 14, Polish citizens), to live with us. How much money do we need to sponsor them? What category would they fall under, and how long would they have to wait? In my K-1 application, I mentioned his name just in case he would try to join us. Is it possible to get them green cards and have them live legally in the U.S.?

Is your Son married?  Below is the Visa Bulletin for May 2026 showing dates when petition priority dates are becoming current.  It's going to be a pretty long wait.  Those petition priority dates shown are  now current in May.

As long as they have valid travel documents, and CBP allows them entry as visitors, yes.

That's if he's unmarried - is he? The children are likely to age out so it would probably just be him (and any spouse).

He is a B787 captain working for a commercial airline and frequently flies on duty to the USA. I hope he’ll be able to continue performing his job while applying for GG. Do you think this will affect his ability to enter the country as active crew?

OK, so yes F1 category and probably a decade or so to wait as a rough guess. The boys will likely age out and be unable to get visas on the same application, he'd have to do the same and petition them as adults if they still wanted to move then too.

Shouldn't be an issue at all. But he should also explore employment based sponsorship if he's a pilot - it may also mean his sons could come (with their mother's permission, if she's alive) if he went down that route rather than you petitioning him.

It is one of those file and forget situations, I guess he will be circa 50 ish when his turn comes and who knows what his situation will be then and what he will want to do.

 

Pilots usually have a C/D Visa but something like this should not cause any issue.

 

For the sake of others the K asks about children not children that may wish to immigrate.

I’d guess older than that if he’s got a 17 year old now. I have many friends with similar age kids who are in their mid-late 50’s already! 
 

If family based sponsorship is the only option and he’d be approaching retirement age by the time he gets a visa (with associated US healthcare costs), plus would have to leave his sons behind, he may decide it’s not worth moving at that point. But as you say, file it and see what the situation is when his turn rolls around.

I used to know someone who flew 747s for BA and I think BA you had to quit at 55, but also someone here flying for Frontier who at 65 had to stop with passengers in the back.

 

Ok a long time to go but seems a difficult age to get a US Flying job. I have seen Pilots look to go the EB2 NIW, I could see that maybe working if you were at the top of the game for your Airline.
