I received an email on Feb 26 advising that the NVC received our approved I-129F petition and will now forward the petition to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in Montreal, Canada.  I have read multiple things that are leaving me confused.

1. I am unable to check the status of our case online. It always says "Your search did not return any data".  I have tried putting NA in the passport number field and the name field, I've tried filling it out completely. I've tried just putting NA in the passport field.  Still same results.

2. Can someone please confirm the correct link to check the status of a K1 Visa as it seems to be different than other visa's? Maybe I am just in the wrong place? lol

3. Should we be waiting for the letter from the embassy/consulate with the check list, etc before we file the DS160?  I have read things that say to wait and I have read things that say to go ahead and file.

We are 2 weeks away from one year from our petition being received. Best of luck to you all, in love and quick processing times!

Thank you in advance for any assistance ☺️

Welcome to your first thread in the forum!

The K-1 is a "hybrid" visa -- a nonimmigrant visa with immigrant intent.  Have you tried checking both of these categories?

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I have tried both the non immigrant and immigrant. When I put the information in the non immigrant section it just tells me it’s an invalid case number.

But I just tried to look at it again and finally got something to pop up! His last name has a space in it. I guess they count the space as one of the letters.

Confirming that they're really spaced-out, perhaps.  :P

100%! 🤦‍♀️ Still not sure what to do next.  I guess we will go ahead and start his DS160 and wait for our Packet in the mail.  I have read some people go ahead and send the stuff from the checklist in before they receive the packet... but we have waited so long, we are afraid to make any mistakes at this point.

@TragicReally hey-hey, could you please kindly share how exactly have you been able to get the info after all?

I'm in a similar situation: NVC sent the case to my Embassy in Poland, I have a new WRW.... number, but I'm confused if there's a way for me to check the status - or I'm just gotta wait for something from the Embassy.

I tried CEAC tracker - both Immingrant and Non-Immigrant for no avail:

- "Your search did not return any data" for the Immigrant option

- "Invalid Application ID or Case Number" for Non-Immigrant one

Would appreciate any insights 🙏

Sorry for the delay! In the CEAC tracker I used the immigrant case status. I entered the case number, NA for the passport number, and I entered the first 5 characters of his last name. I was getting caught up because his late name had a space in it. So my 5 characters were Van W, Hope this helps!

For a K-1?  What checklist? There is nothing to submit to NVC for a K-1.  For a K-1, NVC simply assigns a DOS case number, then forwards the case to the consulate.

I’m referring to the checklist you are to receive in your welcome packet from the consulate/embassy. We have not received it yet. But you can find the checklist online.

i understand we have moved past the NVC at this stage.

OK.  Thanks.  Sometimes NVC incorrectly sends immigrant visa email to K-1 applicants by mistake.

Yay! That worked indeed, thanks a lot! 😊 Trully appreciate it.

Reading the discussion here, so are we (I as the beneficiary) expected to wait for this welcome packet from the consulate/embassy, or it's already time to fill in DS-160 and schedule an interview appointment?

I'm sorry if that's a silly question, I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed and anxious, and not 100% sure what are the further steps now. The more guides I read - the more confused I am 😅

@Violet13 I am right there with you.  However, I went on our embassy’s website to try to schedule an interview and received multiple warnings like “if you have not received” I can’t remember exactly what it was now, but we had not received it, so I didn’t schedule it.  We did go ahead and fill out the DS160 but did not submit it yet.  Just make sure you write down your application number and security question and you will be able to come back to it. I just sent an email to the embassy yesterday asking if they have received our case. I have not heard back yet.

@Violet13 Oddly enough, I received an email from the consulate/embassy about an hour ago. This was the “packet 3” which included the checklist and list of things to do before scheduling the interview/medical.  To give you an idea, NVC forwarded our petition to the consulate on Feb 26, and today April 2, I got the email. It will probably be another 7-10 days before my fiance receives it in the mail.
