I would think you would know what your policy covers prior to any costs you may incur.

Do you speculate on every instance of insurance usage? Well, good on you then.

Comon, You have a resposibility to know what your buyin. Take some ownership.

Read your booklet.

I personally dont wish to jump on the INSURANCE wagon.. but . .simply state... one simple fact.

When you are self-employed.. you end up paying tru the roof...

Unlike being part of a big company or even a small company.. you dont have the luxury to get the company to pay its benefit part... therefore.. you have it all yourself.. aughhhh.

It scares me to think.. what if something happens to me.. I cant afford insurance.. mainly because of being self employed.. ..

and Thank goodness I live in Oregon.. where any child under age of 18 can get coverage.. at times my co-pay for her is only $20.. and that is the monthly premium.. ..

but then.. I also cant complain concerning where she can get her treatment...

Speaking on that.. Next Wednesday.. she will be going in for Knee surgery.. torn ligaments.. and damage from a broken Knee back in march of this year.. it has taken this long since March to finally get the approval for her surgery... only after 14 weeks of physical therapy.. and not getting better only increasing her pain.. .. Kinda hard for a 15 yrs old girl to have to go tru. but.. at this point in my life this is all i can do... and honestly I am grateful for it.. but I do know if I had other insurance.. she probably woulndt have to have waited 25 weeks for surgical repairs.. ..

Please keep her in your prayers on Wednesday.. Doctor thinks he can do the repairs via arthoscopic... but still a partial chance they will do open knee.. to repair the damage.. only way to know is to get in with the scope and take a closer look aughhhh.. Soo for my Daughter.. Volleyball season is OUT... 3 yrs of playing 10 months out of the year .. has just come to a end.. .. she is hearbroken.. but she knows . knees heal.. maybe next year she can be on the team.. for now.. Coach . asked her to be the High School Varsity team Manager... ...

YES! READ THE BOOKLET!!!! If I could count how many times a patient will call and say "will my insurance cover this or that?" I would be rich! How the heck am I supposed to know what all these insurances are going to cover? I know my insurance plans inside and out and my husband, kids and myself all have different plans. Knowing what your plan covers could save you money too since insurance companies do make mistakes.

So, my pregnant sweetheart is almost 5 months along. We just received a $600 bill, for pre-natal and Doctor delivery costs.

Since this pregnancy began in 07 and will commence in early 08, we are being hit twice for the $300 deductible, yet they will bill the entire amount to the insurance company in 08.

Is that right? How can they get away with this?

Not to mention the hospital costs, which I surmise will exceed 12K. We will eat 20% of that, up to the $2600, out of pocket.

Thinking back 23 years, my first daughter's birth cost $20 and the insurance picked up the rest.

Seems insurance companies, specifically BCBS, have ramped up profits, while screwing the insured.

Does anyone know the average hospital delivery costs?

Any thoughts on health insurance?

William, I recently changed insurance with a new job and was offered 2 different HMO plans with Blue Shield. One which had a $100 deductible for pregnancy and delivery and the second plan had a $700 deductible, but at reduced monthly premium of over $100. I chose the latter plan thinking that in 9 months, we've paid for the deductible in premium savings. We also had a choice of a PPO plan, but I've steered clear of those plans for more than decade after dealing with unpaid medical bills from insurance company bureaucracy blunders.
