I totally get that. Best of luck to you.

Thank you.

By the way, if I were to abandon the Reentry Permit idea for now and simply go back and forth between the two countries more often, as in, once every 3 or 4 months, would that raise a flag in the system or would that be ok?

I'm wondering when-how the count to 6 months-1 year resets.  Based on what I've read, I assume the system flags you if you spend 6 or more (1 year limit) continuous months outside of the US. How accurate is that? Does the count reset as soon as one arrives in the US or would one have to stay in the US for a specific minimum amount of time before one can leave again to reset the count of maximum amount of time allowed outside the US before the system considers one's renouncing their Green Card?

We don't have a house in the US anymore but my partner and I will be coming back to buy one, just not yet. Our stuff is in storage and spread out at friends' houses, our car is staying on one of my best friends and also co-worker's property where we stay when we're there, we pay taxes there, bank accounts are there, half of our family is there. We're basically on a kind of extended vacation because we didn't have one in 10 years.
