My wife’s passport has expired and she’s a legal green card holder. We never updated her passport from single to married when she got here. How do we update this in a simple way…if there’s a simple way dealing with immigration haha

Did you marry in the Philippines? If so, did you get a PSA marriage certificate? then you can just apply at the Philippines embassy nearest you.  Its easy.

If you married outside of the Philippines, did you file a ROM with the embassy, and then get a PSA? If not you need to do that first and that will take many months. Don't expect a passport for a long time.

Otherwise, wait for US citizenship and get a USA passport

It is not mandatory to use her married name when renewing.  She can keep her maiden name in her Philippine passport and just renew it.  If she wants to use her married name, then the above ROM and PSA certificate are required for the name change.  Since it has already expired, it might be smart to get it in maiden name, then file ROM, and update it after PSA returns the paperwork so she won't be without a passport for half a year.

If she is in the US, all Philippine passport renewals require an in-person appearance at a Philippine consulate or at a consular outreach event. Appointments must be made online here https://passport.gov.ph/ . If she married in the US they would also expect her to file a Report of Marriage.  This could almost certainly be filled concurrently with the passport renewal so she could be counted as married and use her married name if desired on her new passport with only one trip to the consulate.

For context.... We just did this at the consulate in San Francisco. They required Jaycel to have the official copy of the PSA Marriage Certificate OR the official stamped Report of Marriage from the San Francisco Consulate. You can go to any consulate or the Embassy in D.C. with a PSA copy but if you only have the stamped ROM, you can only go to the consulate that issued the ROM for the first year after receiving it. After the 1st year, they expect you to have the PSA copy. Our experience in SF was super smooth... we were in and out of the consulate in 20 - 30 minutes and Jaycel had her new passport with her married name in the mail exactly 4 weeks later.
