Hi everyone,

I’m the U.S. petitioner for my fiancé’s K-1 visa and I’m a bit confused about the financial-support part. I’m currently unemployed, but I own an apartment in Spain that I rent out for €2,640/month (about $2,800 USD). I also have an investment account with about €33,000 (~$35,000 USD) in savings.

The apartment lease is for one year (renewable), and I can provide the rental contract and bank statements showing regular deposits. My fiancé (the beneficiary) also has about €80,000 (~$85,000 USD) in investments of his own, which he will bring with him to the U.S.

My questions:

  1. Will my rental income and savings be enough to qualify for the I-134 requirement, even though I’m not currently employed?

  2. Does it matter that the lease is only one year long?

  3. Can I include my fiancé’s €80k as additional evidence of overall financial stability, even if it can’t officially count toward my I-134?

  4. The rental contract is in Spanish and quite long — is it okay to provide just a partial translation (rent amount, dates, signatures) with a certification of translation instead of translating the whole document?

Any advice or examples from people who’ve been in a similar situation would be really appreciated!

Thanks so much 🙏

What does your income look like for the IRS taxes that u earn on the apartment in Spain?  As u do have to file US taxes and report this income.

i would get a joint sponsor

My income it's too small to owe anything in US taxes, but I've been submitting taxes anyway.

I hear you guys, go joint sponsor. I will ask my friend. Is it wise that I am the main sponsor with my investments portfolio and my friend with her job as co-sponsor?

There is no co-sponsors. Petitioner will always be the main sponsor, but can have joint sponsor. Joint sponsor should have enough income alone to support immigrant. You can't add main and joint sponsor's income to qualify.

Ah ok, that means that my friend is the only one who should fill the financial affidavit and not me also? Also can you please validate me what is "enough income"? Thank you!

This depends on where sponsor lives, what's their household size, how many dependants they have and whether they sponsored anybody else who is still a green card holder.
