Hi - I have submitted my N400 a couple of weeks ago from the UK as my spouse is living here and working for DODEA which is an approved employer to apply from the UK.

USCIS have sent me a notification saying I need biometrics to proceed further and to arrange getting my fingerprints taken on an FD-258 card and to contact the US embassy or a US military base as there are no USCIS offices in the UK.

Has anyone had to do this and made arrangements to do so? I am planning to contact the embassy tomorrow and as my spouse works on a US military base I am going to contact them also tomorrow. I am struggling to find any information online that confirms exactly what I need to do.

Thanks

Contact your base's RSO. They can typically do fingerprinting for this purpose in accordance with what USCIS needs.

What does RSO stand for? I am in the same boat with the fingerprinting card. I asked on my base and they are not doing it.

I wasn't sure what RSO stood for but where I am in the UK I popped into one of the offices that deals with Pass & ID and they had an office there that did fingerprinting and for external reasons like this. However due to the shutdown, the people who do it are furloughed so not available. I have booked an appointment for the first week of November and hoping that they'll be back by then

Security Office 🙂 it's often precisely where Pass & ID, but sometimes it's separate depending on location needs. It would help if you could share where you are.

Thank you. :) @ghostinthemachineWe are stationed in Ramstein Air Base. I will ask the ID and Pass office tomorrow, if they are doing it. Yes, that is correct @RIchard83 the Army base in Kaiserslautern who usually does it is closed due to the shutdown. At least you were able to book an appointment in November, I wasn't able to do that. No one is answering the phone. I will try the ID and Pass office on Ramstein tomorrow to see if they are doing it.

Ugh I've heard the same from friends re: ROB being closed down due to the shutdown... so unfortunate. Have you tried the HR office in Ramstein? They do all the hiring/onboarding for NAF employees which includes fingerprinting normally... unfortunately I'm not sure if they do them in-house or send people over to ROB.

I called HR office couldn't help me. CPO said that they only do the fingerprints for newly hired, but closed due to the shutdown, The Security office in Ramstein told me to go to the consulate in Frankfurt and they are doing it for a few. I tried Legal Office but couldn't get anyone on the phone. Then I thought, let me try ROB again, maybe they are scheduling for after the shutdown. I couldn't believe that somebody answered the phone, the really kind civilian told me that he got called in to do fingerprints and they have been taking appointments. It was his last day and he said he would do my fingerprints, so I drove there and got them done finally!!! So relieved... I can send the completed N400 application next week.

Honestly, I have made much better experience with the Army than the AF. They are much more informed, and super helpful when it comes to immigration questions!
