Wow. I need to check in with them. I haven’t heard from them. I was DQ’d October, 2025. Do I just reach out to them or is it because I am moving with my family?

Yes, I suggested a week ago you contact NVC. Just checking but are they aware you're a dual citizen, you used your Canadian citizenship on the application and gave those passport details?

Can you please fill in your timeline? So people can see when you were DQ'ed. It makes it much easier to help you rather than having to search through your posts, and also 'pays it forward' to help others too. Thanks.

Hi @appleblossom I have another question if you can help me with it.

1. What is the validity of Police clearance certificate in Canada? I got one from RCMP a few months back and now I am wondering do I have to renew in case I get IL? Can I assume the validity of police cert to 1 year is safe?

2. I have a 2 year child included in my application? Do you know if I need to take my child to the interview as well? or children under certain age can be exempt?

Thank you

Are you following the official website guidance? Do make sure you read that super carefully so you don't make any mistakes. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/the-immigrant-visa-process/step-10-prepare-for-the-interview.html

Police certs are valid for 2 years.

And your child will need a medical but isn't likely to need to be at the interview (generally only those age 14 or over are). But your IL will tell you exactly who is expected.

And as above, PLEASE fill in your timeline to 'pay it forward' and help others.

Thanks and good luck.

Hi all,

For those who have already landed, how was the process?

We are considering crossing the border to land, however we would need another 3 months in Canada so that we can finalize our affairs and our daughter can finish the school year. Do you think it is ok?

Also, is there something we should request to be able to enter the USA while we don't have the green card?

The visa in your passport is what you'll use to enter the US. Once that's stamped and dated upon entry, it acts as a temporary green card for a year until the plastic one turns up.

Your plan sounds fine, just bear in mind that you become tax resident in the US from the moment you land - just in case that might be a factor.

Now you've got your visa, please complete your timeline to help other EB applicants going forward.

Thanks and good luck.

Adding to what @appleblossom mentioned - if your visas are valid past the 3 month mark that you require to officially move, I'd plan to land at that time.  Taxes are a pain in the rear to begin with.  Any time you can keep it "cleanER", it makes it easier, especially if you have a house to sell and TFSA's to deal with.  I'd honestly consult a cross border tax specialist before landing.

Hi @appleblossom and @mam521, thank you so much for your responses. It is much appreciated and help us better plan :)

Regarding timelines - I have updated the timelines right after the interview letter and still can see my info there. Could you please confirm if this is the right link to the document?

@appleblossom I noticed your timeline from visa approval to interview date was very fast. I have an approved I-140 (EB1a) and need a very fast IVP process to get to a time sensitive job on time. Are there any ways you know of to expedite the interview once DQed?

You mean from petition approval to interview date? The visa isn't approved until after the interview.

Not sure what an IVP process is? But yes, you can request an expedite - you'll need the company that wants to hire you to make a strong case for it.

Which country were you born in and what's your PD? Have you been DQ'ed? Please do fill in your timeline - as well as helping other EB applicants and adding to the body of knowledge on the forum, it also means we can help you better as we then have all the info needed rather than having to ask all of these questions.

I am from Canada (born here and citizen here). My PD is current. I haven't been DQ'ed yet, but I anticipate it won't be in too long. I am asking specifically on expediting the immigrant visa process interview (e.g. the step after you are DQ'ed).

And sounds good- I'll fill in the timeline!
