Hello all,

I would like to know if someone is planning petitioning your fiancée or fiance from the UK and how long is taking them for the whole process? Thank you we are trying to make this possible as soon as we can.

hi. Why would you do the k1 visa instead of getting married and doing cr1? It’s such a better idea, especially if one of you is from the uk and can still travel during the wait using an ESTA.

K1 means your fiancé would be unable to leave the US or even work for many, many months after arriving. Are you guys prepared for that?

def a marriage then cr1 if you can

I can't really say much about the after approval timeline but:
waiting for NOA2 - approval - takes about 8-10 months on average right now. It applies to everybody, no matter where you're from!
After approval, at this moment it takes about 2-3 months to be sent to DOS. Your location also doesn't matter for this!

(The speed can change at any time, depending on how fast USCIS works!)

So this is for the USCIS part. After that, maybe someone from UK can add more but from what I've heard the UK embassy is not too backlogged so it shouldn't take that much longer!

From my understanding. . . After approval, allow processing time, maybe up to 3 +/- months. Ensure your paperwork is correct and what they required.   USCIS has to process your documentation to make ready for NVC. Then for NVC to process and prepare to send over to consulate/embassy who will schedule your interview. These times fluctuate depending on workloads.

Hi, I believe it is taking way longer the cr1 close to 3 years?

I believe they’re both taking about the same, within a few months but the cr1 is WAY cheaper too. My CR1 took about 14 months (but this was a couple yrs back)

The k1 has so many drawbacks though. I’m surprised anyone goes through with it tbh. But that’s your call.

Best to assume 18 months?

Maybe for some consulates with big backlogs, but certainly not London. Maybe 18 months overall for UK applicants.

The numbers right now in VJ trackers are about 6 months longer for CR-1 vs K-1 (current NOA2 are being sent for June 2024 for CR-1 and for Dec 2024 for K-1).  Result is K-1 gets the beneficiary into the US faster, but CR-1 gets the beneficiary a green card faster.

Don't let anyone twist your arm into thinking CR-1 is better than K-1.  Give due consideration to both, understanding the process for each and then make a decision about what's best for your situation.  For my fiancee and I the K-1 was a significantly better choice, we filed in February and our estimate for NOA2 is October.
