Did you send any other proof that you are a U.S. Citizen? For example, if you included a photocopy of each and every page (including cover) of your current U.S. passport, then there would not be the need to rely on the birth certificate alone.

I assume you are the US citizen?

I believe the 'long form' and 'short form' birth certificate distinction refers to the foreign fiance/e's birth certificate. As long as you sent a certified copy from the state you were born, you have sent the correct one.

Were your parents listed on the certificate? I don't know for sure if the long for BC applies to the USC. The USCIS is just looking for proof of citizenship. Did you copy your passport? If you submitted a copy of your passport that will show proof of citizenship.

I am sure someone else will know more about the BC requirements.

Good luck!

I only sent the first page of my passport, because it was in the Korea office for a work visa at the time.

Certified copies usually have a seal or a stamp of some sort (mine is a stamp). I made a photocopy of it, too (don't send USCIS your originals unless you want them to get lost.

Good call. So I guess that means I screwed up by not getting it certified. Where do you go to do that? Post Office?

The actual birth certificte will be on file with the issuing office.

A certified copy is a photocopy by the official agency with a raised seal or stamp signfying that they CERTIFY it is an identical copy to that what is on file in their office.

No, it has to be done by the state in which you were born.

Google it. You can probably order it online for little $ and have it in the mail in a week or two.

You might - unfortunately - others have, while am sure others have not...

I googled it, like suggested. And I ordered THREE certified copies. They were less than $10 each and I figured that way I can have one for the Petition, one for my fiance and one for me. If any get lost, my fiance has one and so do I and we don't have to waste time waiting to get another.

I don't have my passport available right now, what is on the first page? If you have a U.S. passport and you make a copy of that part of the document showing your name and picture, etc then the USCIS might accept that even though the guide says to copy all pages. Hopefully you will be ok but you might want to do what someone else recommended and search the Internet to get a certified copy of your BC from the recorders office where your BC is filed. Good luck
