NOA2 expiring before Montreal interview

Hey all!

 

It seems like my NOA2 will probably expire before my appointment at MTL. Do I need to take action on this?

 

Also, how often does the Montreal consulate frees up timeslots for appointment? There's currently only one day, and it's impossible for me to get there.

This happens quite often and there is no action needed on your part aside from bringing updated letters of intent to marry from you and your fiancee to the interview. If the NOA2 is expired at the time the interview takes place, the consular officer conducting the interview will extend the validity of the notice there at the time. Nothing to worry about. Petition validity is typically extended automatically by consulates in 4-month increments for up to a year.

It never hurts to e-mail the consulate ahead, with A# in Subject line, to request said extension.

I tried that in Manila and they said it is not something they do beforehand and will be done by the CO at the interview if necessary

Most consulates release appointment times/dates in blocks only so far ahead, typically 4 weeks. You may just have to wait until they release a new batch to get a date that works for you.

 

Keep checking and their release pattern will become apparent.

I can’t say for the Montreal embassy but with the London embassy my NOA2 had expired but I brought a signed letter of intent each from me and my now wife with me to the interview which re validated the notice/petition as @Edward and Jaycel mentioned.

 

There were no issues regarding this. I would advise you to bring signed letters of intent from you both.

Also in terms of appointments keep checking the site as dates and times will become available at some point.

 

I struggled to get an appointment initially until I finally managed to book an appointment (I checked regularly as well). There ended up being about 6 weeks between my medical and my interview at the embassy.
