My wife doesn’t have enough income on her taxes to support me. we have a joint sponsor who makes plenty with income alone, making it very straightforward.

However i864 Part 7 reads: “If your income, or total income for you and your household exceeds the Federal Poverty Guidelines for your household size YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED to complete this Part 7.”

Her income obviously doesn’t, but it sounds like it means this part is not optional because of it. I’d prefer not to over complicate this for the officer and not include it since they doesn’t really make sense if I’m including a joint sponsor, but I don’t want to get denied for not including required info… so what shoul I do? should my wife add my assets on her form no matter what or just put n/a?

She is not required to fill out that section. If she has some liquid assets, she can state and document them.  The same goes for you.  The intending immigrant's liquid assets can also be used.  However, if you still need a joint sponsor, I would just skip it.
