Yes

More are selected than are needed so keep both going.

Is this something she can also pursue even though we have a CR1 processing?

What are the current steps? I saw somewhere about how she can't apply until Oct or is that when the processing begins?

Whether it makes sense or not to pursue the DV selection depends on a couple of factors such as where you guys currently are with the CR1, your spouse’s DV case number (otherwise known as CN), the performance of the embassy with jurisdiction over your spouse’s place of residence as related to DV cases.

Just filed recently with PD March 26 so expecting sometime next spring.

My spouses DV number is 1300 or so.

If CR1 is recently filed, and hasn’t even been approved by USCIS, then processing the DV selection makes a lot more sense as the selection is only valid for one FY and will likely get processed long before the CR1.

p.s. For future reference, writing the CN without the region is meaningless.

Ok thanks. She's from Thailand. I also have 1 more question. Can I sign in and fill the DS-260 for her and just have her sign? I know people said they help their spouse during the CR1 process, but this is a DV so not sure if it's the same thing.

Yes you certainly can. At the end of the of the day, she’ll be deemed responsible and accountable for whatever information is listed on the DS260 form. So she should carefully go over the form prior to submission.

Bumping my thread and updating instead of making a new one.

Her interview is Oct 14th.

Is there any reason or would it help if my spouse brings any of our CR1 documents? Like maybe marriage certificate or something?

Interview for what? DV? She should have a detailed checklist of what she’ll need to bring and yes, marriage certificate is on it. https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/immigrate/diversity-visa-program-entry/diversity-visa-interview/diversity-visa-prepare-for-interview.html

Yes DV interview. I forgot marriage certificate is listed on there. We already have that planned. How about things like a confirmation/receipt of our CR1?

How is that relevant.

I took all my paperwork, why not.

She can take them along if she likes, they however are irrelevant to her DV case. She needs to closely review the documents required for the DV process and ensure she’s well prepared to demonstrate she meets the requirements.

Update. My spouse is interviewing from Sydney on Oct 14th. She got an email on August 27th that says she needs to mail in all the documents on the checklist 30 days before her interview, which means Sept 13th or so. Nowhere on the website did it mention this, so this must be new? We send in all the required documents, but today she receives an email saying that her Australian Police Check needs to have her fingerprints included too. Again, nowhere on the websites did it mention about needing fingerprints. Even a previous DV winner from 2 years ago didn't need the fingerprint check, just name only. Maybe different for my spouse, or maybe it's new?

Anyways, she's working on her fingerprints, but they say it takes approximately 15-30 days for the Police Check application that includes fingerprints to be processed. The email today says she has 5 days to get this in. This does not give her enough time at all.

Looks like the only thing she can do is ask them to reschedule the interview, or, which i doubt, ask for an extension.

Ok so it does say on the reciprocity page. Seems like a lot of people glance over that part. There are many who just did the name check only without fingerprint.

Emailed the embassy and they said to send a receipt that my spouse has applied for the correct police check. They also want to know why she didn't apply for the correct one earlier so will think of a response. Maybe they'll give her some leniency.
