Hi all,

I have a situation that's maybe a little different than most folks' who have been in my place, which is my last name got changed but no legal documents to proof.

I came to the U.S. using K2 visa on 2002. (as a minor). My mom remarried on the same year.  (with my step-father)

I got green card on 2003.  (as a minor)

My mom got her naturalization on 2006, and I was a minor at that time, so I automatically become US citizen and got my US passport.

- I applied N-600 for the naturalization Certificate this year, waiting for the oath ceremony. -

The problem is when I got my GC in 2003, the last name already shown my step-father's last name.

My step-father said he just changed my name without submitting any name change documents to USCIS.

And I did search my civil court for any court order of my name change, nothing came up.

But till now, I don't have any legal documents to proof I have change my last name.

I'm looking for some tips.

Looks like someone messed up when they printed your card.

What name is on your US passport?

Since your current legal name is supposed to be your step father’s last name, which was on your Green Card and U.S. passport, who’s demanding the name change proof now?

On a side note, if you already have your U.S. passport, isn’t filing N-600 redundant? I thought the Certificate of Citizenship (as opposed to “Naturalization”) was meant for people who want a proof of citizenship other than a passport.

N-600 isn't redundant. Many years later USCIS / DOS / SSA / employer may not be happy with just US passport and demand to see other proof of US citizenship!

See all reasons for N-600 here:

Yes, you are right, so that's the reason I would like to get my naturalization certificate now.

Step-father's last name on my passport, driver license and other documents.

Wow not one agency picked it up.

I don't think it will be an issue with the N-600 if it is you can handle it then.

Yea, chaos for my name change stuff. The oath ceremony is next week, but not sure which last name will they put, plus will they provide me the N-662 along with the certificate.

SSA?  Step-father's last name?  This is usually the first stop for people doing name changes, so if your name is the same as everything else, I'd guess the N-600 will be the same.

What have all your NOA's for the N-600 said?

Intriguing, for sure!
