Yes, they will mail it back plus the bank is going to hit you for a bounced check.

My lawyer YES my lawyer bounced a check. And they sent me a letter. Saying it had to be paid befor a certin date. And if it wasn't we would have to start all the paper work over again from the begining. I fired that lawyer

Judging by people's signatures, it's not clear whether they wait to see if the check clears before generating the NOA1. They won't submit the check if it's not signed, or not dated properly, or not for the right amount, but there's no way they could tell whether a check would clear.

So I'd expect either the packet will come back with a notice requesting proper payment, or that they'll accept it into the system and then send you a notice once the check doesn't clear demanding payment.

That appears to be the procedure. No need to start over but if you check bounces, have certified funds available for a quick turnaround.
