@Edward and Jaycel did the friend have proof of receiving the polio vaccine at any point? that could be why it if wasn't given again at their medical

polio is technically a 3 dose vaccine (not required 3 dose like some, but recommended), if it had been a long time (or at all) that might be why they got the RFE for it.

She, like Jaycel, was given a blanket waiver for not being age appropriate because the guidance prior to May 2024 was that it was only appropriate to give to children I believe

If it's stating you have to get the vaccine or proof it was administered wouldn't going to a doctor that can do it and signing off be it a letter or paper showing the vaccine was given count as proof?

It's confusing cause if I being told I have to do part of I-693 but I could also show proof it was done wouldn't either be accpetable?

I'm just telling you what was in her RFE - It said to complete the vaccine portion of the I-693 and return the signed and sealed report by a civil surgeon showing she has received the Polio vaccine to USCIS in response to the RFE

This is from the FAQ on USCIS.gov Civil Surgeon / Vaccine requirements page

Q: Did the CDC’s Vaccination Technical Instructions change for the polio vaccine?

A: On May 1, 2024, the Vaccination Technical Instructions for Civil Surgeons changed for the polio vaccine. One dose of IPV should be given to anyone 2 months or older if they are not currently up to date according to ACIP recommendations, including adults who cannot show proof of the childhood vaccine series. If the Form I-693 was signed by a civil surgeon on or after May 1, 2024, the new polio vaccine requirement applies.

https://www.uscis.gov/tools/designated-civil-surgeons/vaccination-requirements

We are not going to take a chance on an RFE at the interview and we will go to a civil surgeon and get it done

Apologies I was trying to find a civil surgeon in my area. I found one that is able to do it for us as early as next week.  It will cost $300 to do plus I have traveling expenses since we live on different islands the doctor and me but don't really have a choice it needs to be done.

Yeah I always think it's better to do now rather than under the pressure and time limit of an RFE. Let us know how it goes

@Aserc @Edward and Jaycel Sorry if messaging was rash. I stressed a bit now since there is only 1 qualified doctor near my island else I would have to travel a bit further which brings even higher added costs. Just trying to figure out how I will manage to get this all done. I do we all have everything go well for all of us. This process is so stressful again.

It's all good... I know how it feels my friend :) Not even having an interview scheduled yet is driving Jaycel crazy and she feels like USCIS has forgotten her. We did an Ask Emma session and the agent said that an interview was requested for our case on 3/13/25 so we are in the queue. It's just that the Denver FO is super slow and right now they are interviewing people that filed in Sept. 2024 so we have a couple of months to wait still. Some days are harder than others as I'm sure you all know 🥹

On the bright side the doctor said since they usually only do this medical stuff in the afternoon and where I am coming from they will do it in the morning for me. 💓 Now I just need to time everything from the boat ride, to the lyft or uber, to the doc, how long it will take at the doc, and coming back lol.

Oh wow..id say too that we could wait  somehow.. as this medicals are mandated by the embassy to our countries of application. As for me we had discussed that in the interview,  possibly it could be one reason why i received the cancelation of RFE? and also its good to come prepared too. As for me nothing I could have done. This details are just recent... and forgot to ask too which vaccine they think i lacked on our verbatim discussion and RFE. Im now just waiting as to whats next for me.

Denver has a reputation of being one of the slowest field offices in the country sadly... :(  Averages of 8-10 months from filing date to interview date and that seems to track with the 3 or 4 people I know who filed in Sept. 2024 just getting their interviews done in Denver this week and next week

Did the wife vaccination today. We have to go back in two weeks though to pick up the signed sealed paperwork though. :(.

Also @Edward and Jaycel not sure were or should I post but if anyone didnt see USCIS has changed the rules for the I-693 starting June 11, 2025. "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services is updating its Policy Manual to clarify that a Form I-693, Report of Immigration Medical Examination and Vaccination Record, is only valid while the application the Form I-693 was submitted with is pending."

According to USCIS, any Form I-693 signed by a civil surgeon on or after November 1, 2023, will no longer be valid if the associated Form I-485 (Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status) is withdrawn or denied. Applicants in such cases must submit a newly signed Form I-693 with any future immigration application.

The updated policy is effective immediately and applies to all cases that are either pending or filed on or after June 11, 2025.
