Not sure what my next step is but I guess I should find out shortly from the DOS.

In about 3 weeks I would start sending inquiries via their public inquiry page (link below) to request your case number. There is a function on the form to attach documents where you should attach a scanned copy of the I-129F approval notice. Take the opportunity of the inquiry to make sure they have both the petitioner and beneficiary's email addresses. I would word the inquiry something like:

Hello NVC,

My Petition for Alien Fiancé(e) (I-129F) was approved on XX/XX/2025 and USCIS has notified me that my case has been sent to you. I would like to request that you provide me my case number if it is available. I would also like to make sure you have the petitioner and beneficiary emails updated in your system as follows:

Petitioner: email@email.com

Beneficiary: email@email.com

I have attached the approval notice for my form I-129F for your review.

Thank you,

Angie A.

If they don't have your case number available on the first inquiry, you can send a new request every 10 days. Once they create your case and provide you the case number, usually within a couple of weeks you will get an email from them with a K1-FTP letter attached which indicates that they have sent your case to the embassy. Once they provide you the case number, you can start tracking it on the CEAC Case Tracker site (Link Below)

Hi all,

So got confirmation that are case has now been transferred to the DOS, so this exciting news but now another waiting game begins.

Not sure what my next step is but I guess I should find out shortly from the DOS.

Congrats! I would send them a public inquiry in 2 weeks to get your case number. This will allow you to log into CEAC. You can also schedule your medical checkup with your number.

Your case will then be forwarded to the consulate. The NVC will send you an email once that happens. You can also check the status one you gain access to CEAC website.

I sent a public inquiry and got our case number last Friday. We scheduled the medical exam and finished the DS-120 but have not submitted since we can’t just yet. Our case status is “AT NVC”.

Im assuming we will get the K1-FTP letter as the next step which should show our case as “In Transit”. We aren’t sure if we should open a public inquiry if 1-2 weeks go by without receiving the K1-FTP letter.

We aren’t sure the timeline here. Has anyone else reached this stage and how long should we expect to wait? Lastly, I heard we cannot submit the DS-120 until our case is at the “Ready” stage. Can anyone help?

I haven't heard of anyone doing an inquiry for the K1-FTP but with your case number you can check the status of your case on the CEAC Case Tracker and if it says "At NVC" then there's no point in doing an inquiry. If it says "In Transit" or "Ready" and you haven't got the email with the letter attached then see if they'll send you a copy.

It would be the DS-160 and it is valid for 1 year from the date you submitted it - Most people wait until case is ready at the embassy in case any info changes but it's not a requirement. We did Jaycel's DS-160 when her case status changed to "Ready" in the CEAC Case Tracker

Edward, I just checked the CEAC Case Tracker (I did not know it was a thing) and was surprised to see that our case has been at the Ready status since May 23! We didn't get any mail or instructions? Should we wait before doing anything? I mean, I can find the instructions for Montreal online but I'm afraid to move forward. Thanks :)

There was no email to either beneficiary or petitioner from NVC with a PDF file attached? You might want to check your spam folders. That would be the K1-FTP letter. As far as the process for Montreal, I am not 100% sure if they make you wait for a "Packet 3" email or not to start the process.

We did get K1-FTP pdf with our case number and that's how we were able to login with CEAC and see that it's "Ready" status at Montreal consulate, but no instructions or invoice number to pay the fees yet. I guess we shall just wait a little more.

Ok so as a K-1 applicant you will not get an invoice number for NVC... everything from this point forward will be through the embassy and whatever website Montreal uses to have you register and schedule an appointment. Below is a link to the Immigrant Visa procedures for Montreal - You will follow them because all the embassies treat K-1 Visa applicants as Immigrant Visa applicants

This is the breakdown of our process -

Case Was Sent To The Department of State

May 27, 2025

Case Was Approved

April 3, 2025

Case Was Received

July 10, 2024

April 3rd?

According to the subscription that we shouldn't be mentioning the latest they are sending is April 2nd.

I am only asking because my NOA2 is April 3rd and haven't seen any cases for that date still sent to DOS.

Exactly 60 days for me. 😭
