Bongino To Join Patel at FBI as Deputy Director

 

President Trump has tapped Dan Bongino, a hard-charging Trump supporter and one of America's most popular and prolific conservative commentators, to serve as deputy director of the FBI.

A top podcaster, former Fox News host, New York City Police Department officer, and 12-year veteran of the Secret Service, Bongino is a close friend of FBI Director Kash Patel and will now serve as his right-hand man at the FBI, Trump announced on Truth Social Sunday.

Trump's choice of Bongino to join Patel at the FBI as its deputy came just three days after the Senate confirmed Patel's nomination, 49 to 51, with Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska and Susan Collins of Maine the only two Republicans to vote against him.  The appointment is the latest sign that Trump is committed to aggressively cleaning house at the FBI.

Bongino, along with Patel, a former public defender and Justice Department lawyer who became a MAGA firebrand, will report to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Director of the Office of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard to uncover threats and safeguard national security.

While Patel has experience as a lawyer and high-ranking official in federal intelligence agencies during Trump's first term, Bongino has practical law enforcement experience as a former police officer and Secret Service agent.  Both have excoriated the FBI over its role in facilitating the investigations Trump has faced since 2017, including submitting faulty foreign intelligence court applications in the Trump-Russia investigation.

In Bongino, Patel will have a deputy who is also devoted to ending the politicization of the FBI and helping thoroughly investigate and provide far more public transparency on the would-be assassins who came close to killing Trump in the final months of the campaign.

The rumor that was floating around social media on Thursday that the Trump administration was considering pulling the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations are true.  It's not that Stefanik has done anything to jeopardize her nomination or gotten on the wrong side of the president, it's that Republicans cannot afford to lose her seat in the House.

Easter Sunday's "Fox News Sunday" featured an exclusive interview with Secretary of the Interior Doug Burgum.  Even as one of the less visible cabinet members, Burgum's role in managing our national parks and the country's public lands is very visible and less opaque than some other cabinet positions.  Which is probably why he has recently come under some fierce criticism.

In just under three weeks, the political establishment demonstrated its speed and ruthlessness when it came to taking down former national security adviser Mike Flynn.  Freshly appointed and barely settled into his role, Flynn was the target of a coordinated sting operation that most now know was highly illegal.  Flynn was pressured into resignation and publicly humiliated.  Two months later, the out-of-power political class installed Robert Mueller as special counsel.

 

Mueller, in turn, tapped Rod Rosenstein — the very man who signed off on those dubious FISA warrant renewals that followed — to lead the charge.  Meanwhile, Attorney General Jeff Sessions, in a display of weakness that still reverberates, recused himself, handing over control of a historic investigation to those with glaring conflicts of interest.  Rosenstein had far more reason to recuse himself than did Sessions.

'It's Marco vs. the Deep State':  Trump Administration to Overhaul National Security Council

 

The next bastion of the Deep State to get targeted for its bureaucratic bloat is the National Security Council, and this battle is not starting a moment too soon.  The NSC is a hornet's nest of appeasers, advocates for endless wars, and far-leftists who despise President Trump and his administration, think they know better how to conduct foreign policy despite their ever-lengthening string of failures, and will do everything they can to undermine what Trump tries to do.  But now, enter Marco Rubio.

Fox News reported Friday that Trump and Rubio "are continuing to overhaul the National Security Council and shift its main functions to other agencies like the State and Defense departments."  Former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz started the ball rolling when “he ordered 160 NSC staffers off the job pending a comprehensive review of the agency's alignment with Trump's agenda."  Now, as Waltz moves on to become UN ambassador in the wake of the Signal kerfuffle, the resistance against the Deep State at the NSC will continue.

The left will, of course, howl yet again about Trump's fascism, but [...]
