Hey Everyone,

We got an RFE on the I-864 Affidavit of Support, but they did not specify the reason at all. It starts with "You did not submit a properly completed and signed form..." followed by two pages of basic instructions.

I've combed through the form we submitted and noticed a mistake with the household size due to an issue with the PDF reader. I couldn't include myself and forgot to correct it with a pen, so it says a family size of 1. Would this be enough for an RFE

I am a US citizen but had been living and working in my Wife's country for the last several years. The only other reason I could think of is that although I filed taxes last year, I was on a foreign contract, paid in their currency. I had the tax documents but not a W2 providing the income. We have since moved back to the US, so I sent in a letter from my company stating my income and recent pay stubs. I am a high earner, far above the required income, but I had only been working in the US for a couple of months at the time of filing.

Does the household size seem to be the reason, or is it something else? Any advice is much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

Yes, absolutely.  There cannot be a family size of "1" for an I-864.  However, did you submit all pages and sign the form correctly?

I864 RFEs are generic.

You could have one issue or many. The RFE will not tell you directly but if they have included many details, you likely have many mistakes.

Household Size is definitely an error but likely not the only.

W2s are not needed IF a return TRANSCRIPT is included. You submitted a TRANSCRIPT, correct?

1. a GOOD read through the instructions will be helpful.

2. Reading through the many many threads about I864 RFEs on VJ will also be helpful to you.

Only you will know what's wrong with your form as we cannot physically read it nor SEE the supporting financial documents you include nor KNOW what financial documents are required for YOUR extremely individual situation.

Yes. From what I see, that was the only error. I just thought they would tell you the specific reason? I'm just a bit worried about resubmitting it with just that change since it says it can only be corrected once without the whole thing getting denied and having to spend all the time and money doing it over again.

Sometimes, they give specifics...sometimes not.

Omitting a family member could mean it wasn't properly completed.
