Ha! So funny you guys are talking about this today...I just woke up with the worst toothache! I've only been in the states 5 days, no insurance...and I know it's a stupid wisdom tooth that has been surfaced for years and should have been pulled. It's infected and it's spreading down the side of my throat. With no insurance I think I'm just going to wait it out....have a doctor friend here, maybe he can hook me up with drugs for the time being. Oh and I'm one of those with like 18 filled cavities from when I was a kid! But my teeth are white and straight, gotta love braces!

Oh no! That's the worst pain. Maybe just head to the Dr. and get some antibiotics. For me, nothing took away the pain in my jaw/tooth/head until I started some antibiotics. Except for holding water in my mouth - for some reason that took away the pain momentarily.

Sorry to hear that hawkeye. I feel for ya!

If you're having a very bad toothache, and the Dr. suggests a root canal may be in order, then you'll probably need antibiotics first. Usually the pain is coming from an abcess. The antibiotics will take away the pain. You might be tempted to not go back again when the pain goes away (usually in 1-2 days at the most), but it will come back again unless you do something permanently to fix this problem. Root canals can often now be done in one sitting. If you need a crown down, then that will require another visit. I had horrible teeth as a child, and found a dentist in my early 20's who was a dream. I had a fantastic dental plan and was able to have a lot of work done on my teeth. My dentist was a good friend, and a good dentist. She always explained each procedure, and took AWAY the pain, not created it! Yes, it's a little annoying sometimes having a needle to freeze you, but she would not continue any work until I or any other patient was frozen, period. She was not in the business of hurting people! She always said that if a dentist was giving unnecessary pain, then they didn't care much about the patient and weren't doing their job. A root canal should not hurt at all if your Dentist knows what they're doing and they have taken care of the abcess with antibiotics first.

Sometimes, without a good dental plan, there are few alternatives other than pulling a tooth and getting a partial plate, or dentures. There are always lots of people who advocate keeping your own teeth, and a lot of them are probably people in theirs 80's and +! But sometimes, not having the thousands of dollars available is not an option. As well, sometimes leaving things until you DO have the money, means you infect other teeth, or you have more problems. See if your Dentist is willing to set up a payment plan for you even if you have no dental insurance.

Wow, I was on a ramble here, sorry!

I did want to mention as well to E, about the TMJ...what is your Dentist doing about that? There are some very new and good products out there that have helped a lot of people, just in the last year!

Sadly nothing to my knowledge.. he didn't even really ask me much about that - just if i had a mouth guard. I lost my amazingly beautiful lower tooth guard a few months ago - it was a beautiful thing that a wonderful CDN dentist did for me. what new products do you speak of Carla :)

Weird. I am reading the last few pages about tooth problems and there are 2 ads by Google on top of this page about finding Dentists.

that is how the ads work.. they take key words and place ads based on that

They are so very big brother.

"...My hair's mostly wind,

My eyes filled with grit

My skin's white then brown

My lips chapped and split

I've lain on the prairie and heard grasses sigh

I've stared at the vast open bowl of the sky

I've seen all the castles and faces in clouds

My home is the prairie and for that I am proud…

If You're not from the Prairie, you can't know my soul

You don't know our blizzards; you've not fought our cold

You can't know my mind, nor ever my heart

Unless deep within you there's somehow a part…

A part of these things that I've said that I know,

The wind, sky and earth, the storms and the snow.

Best say that you have - and then we'll be one,

For we will have shared that same blazing sun." - David Bouchard

Thanks for the support! I will ask my friend to get me some antibiotics. And yes carlawarla that's exactly what happened last time back home, toothache, dentist told me he had to pull it, gave me antibiotics, pain went away and I never got around to going back to getting it pulled (outta pain outta mind I guess)...now I'm paying for it! WAH :(

Also about the ads, I used to work for MSN ads, and it is crazy how much info we had access to. We could program it so ads would display based on any recent searches that were made, status changes on facebook etc. Like did you notice as soon as you changed your status from single to engaged on facebook you started getting non-stop ads for wedding stuff. Pretty crazy how much they know about you, once you sign on to your hotmail....

I'm looking for a granola today.. someone to pat me on the head and tell me it's going to be okay.

After a year and a half I've finally got the courage to get back to eating right (no sugar, dairy or wheat), and taking all those little vitamins & supplements that cost so stinking much but really do help me out.

Migraines did it. What you put in is what you get out, and I realized today that I need to smarten the heck up.

So forgive me dear friends if I pass on the caffeine for a bit, am a bit grouchy from the sugar withdrawal for a bit, and BEG you for just a tiny sliver of doughnut to get me through the hard bits. Be strong and resist me friends.. for I will be much better off without. It might get ugly, but I really want to get back to my simple way of eating. Life is better there. :star:

We can make a pot of decaffeinated for you . . . or a nice cup of herbal tea :) . Good luck on the dietary endeavours and 'good health'.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
