Sly's portfolio could have gone without this. Its just too easy to make money quickly in Hollywood with all the flashy big names. even if the movie stinks! Looks like something I'd watch on a sleepy Thursday night at home. But that's it. Saw Bourne Ultimatum the other night. Pretty damn good! But still prefer the Supremacy a little more. And since there's a 4th book now, I guess that will eventually become the 4th film.

Mel Gibson has followed the same formula, get the audience outraged by atrocities done by the bad guys against somebody the main character has any emotional connection to and then let them feel that outrage vindicated when the main character unleashes his bloodbath.

I thought Linda Hamilton as the heroine in Terminator (1984) did an excellent job as a reluctant hero, thrust into extraordinary circumstances and always torn between running away from those circumstances or face them head-on. Bruce Willis was also good in the first Die Hard. It just becomes comical when the heroes never reach a point of absolute desperation or when the finale consists of the hero brutally exacting his vengeance.

When action movies are sold on CGI and explosions, I don't think thats going to happen. Maybe if those types of movies stopped making so much money.

There are occasionally indie films that might fit the bill, but its hard to make much of an action film on an indie budget.

I'm just surprised that they still think there's mileage left in the Rambo character. Its so firmly stuck in the 80's - hard to see what relevance it would have to attract a modern audience.

From the trailer alone - that movie looks extremely masturbatory. The evil Burmese must have no redeeming features of any kind to justify Rambo cutting off a guy's head with a knife, ripping out his throat or disemboweling him. Most action films are like that - but when you combine it with an attempt at foreign politics you invariably end up with a nasty piece of imperialist porn.

Casino Royale (in particular) and the Bourne movies were well written...

The problem with Rambo is that its a wafer-thin character and a badly conceived idea.

Personally I enjoyed the 80's flicks. 80's was about having fun rather than your Michael Moore 40 minutes quick fix solution to everything or the overdone horror films.

I good portion of new films now have something to do with shock or horror IE EG Hostel. No wonder kids are so screwed up.

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I am not talking about Rambo in particular.. Movies like Beverly Hills Cop, The Breakfast Club, Weird Science, Top Gun, Aliens, Back To The Future, Back to school, Blade Runner, Star Trek, Rocky, Overboard, Brewster's Millions etc..

Nowadays everyone is too smart for flicks like that. :bonk: Even though very few of these apparent 'new age' geniuses have jobs at nasa..
