I'd hate for them to tell me the case has been approved but then I have to wait several months on some other thing before I can finally fly out to the states.

How long does the police report take?

Do I need to visit the doctor to get a list of vaccinations I've had?

My UK passport expires September 2008... Do I need to renew it before I leave for the states (incase they want to kick me out)?

Or does none of that matter right now and I can just relax until I hear anything from them?

If I were you, I'd start by filling in my timeline and profile details. Yes, renew your passport but there's no hurry for that.

So, then you've got some exploring and learning to do. Those little helpful links like "guides" and "dictionary" at the tops of the page should keep you out of trouble for a day or two.

If it's a question about the visa process and your answer is "I don't know." then now is your time to learn.

The police report takes 40 days from when they receive your request and is valid for one year.

I think you can renew your passport in the US but I think I would rather renew it before I left as I think it would be easier.

Your passport needs to be valid for at least six months at the time of receiving your visa. If you have only just started the process you should renew it. (By the time your interview rolls around your passport may have less than six months in it and they won't issue the visa.)

You do need a current record of your vaccinations to take to your medical. Do some research on the requirements before visiting your doctor so they (and you) know exactly what's expected.
