Background Check in Ireland

Hi all,

 my daughter is currently sponsoring her Croatian husband who currently lives in Ireland. Their petition was approved, and they moved to the next step where he needed the background check, he got the Croation translated copy within a couple of weeks, but the Irish background check seems to be taking forever. At this point it has been 3 months since he submitted the first request at his local Garda station which when he checked a month later, was told they could not find the application and so he applied again. We are now two months later, with no movement.

Is this normal for Ireland, is there anywhere he can go to escalate his request?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is this the procedure they followed?  

 

Procedure for Obtaining: Applicants for Police Certificates for the above mentioned purposes should make application in writing to the Superintendent in charge of the district wherein they reside, or formerly resided, in the Republic of Ireland.  Information on how to request a Police Certificate, the district directory and the name of the Superintendent, is available on the www.garda.ie website.

That's way too long, i had mine back in less then 2 weeks, its valid for one year then. I'd advise as well that the full name corresponds with the name on passport, birth cert etc.

 

I would try the main Garda station for what ever county your in and not the village station etc.

He lives in Swords, so it looks like the district Garda station is Coolock. I shared this info with him and shared the advice from here. Hopefully he will take the advice and re-file in Coolock.

As an update, once he applied through the district Garda station, the process took less than 2 weeks. Thank you all for the help and advice.
