hi all i just wanted to post this warning to all. Its kinda like it would never happen to me. Hubby and I attended a concert in spokane sun night all was great till someone drugged my drink. we think it was acid or something well the details are sketchy for me but needless to say somehow we got seperated from each other and I was on a strange drug trip, Well the story ends with me being arrested for domestic battery (hubby never laid charges) I spent the worse night of my life in jail.I got out late monday night I spent the day suffering the after effects of the drug.I'm at my step daughters as there is a no contact order in effect. SO PLEASE NEVER LEAVE YOUR DRINK UNATTENDED.I'll keep you posted to how this pans out.oh and due to the drug i couldn't stop crying so they put me on a suicide watch in jail.I miss my hubby so much hopefully the order will be dropped. hope this never happens to any of you terry and george

YIKES!!! What a horrible event! While you don't remember anything after you drank your drink, I don't know how you could have had battery charges laid against you if you weren't involved in an altercation with your husband? :blink: Hope you're talking to a good lawyer. I would not want this to jeopardize your being in the US! Let us know how this pans out, and know we're here for emotional support!

That is horrible.... I know it's been happening more and more though- people spiking drinks.. Did they do a drug test to find out what you were exposed to? I think I'd wanna know what it was!

OMG that's terrible. I hope you get it all sorted out when you will be able to see your husband again.

How is that possible to have those charges against you if your husband never laid any charges???

That beats me up :unsure:

hi all , we have no idea why they charged me ,Maybe because of my condition they did. When I realized I musted of been drugged I did ask for a drug test but they ignored my request. I'm seeing a lawyer first thing today. I totally agree with the sippy cup idea.I'm still have after effects of this. I checked online and everything points to acid.I don't use drugs so I'm sure it explains the bad trip. I'll keep you all informed. Thank you all for caring. I guess the first court date is in 2 weeks so we have no contact till then. I guess hubby did tell them about immigration stuff and they said its ok ,its a misdemeaner charge.

How awful for you! It may not be too late to have drug testing done...depending on the substance it can be detected by urine and blood for days after the event and hair analysis can detect most substances for a few months. I don't know hbow important it is for you to have this information, but if it is head off to the dr soon. Have you reported this to the Canadian police? Don't know if they are interested in knowing or may help you obtain the testing.

Take good care.

Linda

Actually, I would contact your nearest Canadian consulate as well. From voyage.gc.ca (Canadian Consular Affairs)

Arrest or Detention

If you are arrested or detained in another country, you should clearly inform the arresting authorities that you wish to have the nearest Canadian government office abroad notified immediately of your arrest.

The arresting authorities have an obligation, under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, to advise you of your rights of access to a consular representative and to make arrangements for such access. They are not required to inform a Canadian diplomatic or consular office of your detention or arrest unless you specifically ask them to do so.

and

Q: What can consular officials do for a Canadian imprisoned abroad?

A: Consular officials can:

* ensure equitable treatment under local laws, consistent with the standards of the host country, and assist in ensuring that your legal rights, as provided locally, are protected;

* conduct prison visits and ensure treatment consistent with what could reasonably be expected by the host country’s own citizens;

* notify your next of kin, at your request, about your situation; let them know whether, and how, they can help; and keep them informed;

* provide a list of local English-speaking lawyers and information about local legal aid;

* direct you to sources of information about local laws, regulations, cultural customs and visas; and

* provide a loan, but only as a last resort and in exceptional circumstances (i.e. there is no one else who can help you). You must meet strict rules. You may be required to surrender your passport as a condition of such a loan, and you will be required to sign appropriate documents. These loans carry an interest rate established by the Department of Finance. Your passport will not be returned or reissued until the loan is repaid.

damn, sorry to hear, Hope it turns out as well as it can!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Please, please, please ensure that your lawyer knows something about immigration! I don't mean to increase your anxiety, but 'just a misdemeanor' doesn't necessarily mean 'not a problem for an immigrant.' Even just a consult with an immigration attorney might be advisable here.

You poor kid. Goddamn people who spike people's goddamn drinks oughta be hit with a baseball bat a few times upside the head. Hang in there, okay?
