If my husband (then fiance) would say something about pre-nup, I would definitely be insulted and embarrass...unless, if the idea comes from me. "Segurista" ang dating (I dunno the English term for that).

well to be honest i think ,

it should depand on how well and how long you have knowen your future spouse,

if you knowen her/him in real for at least a few year and realy know what the future will hold ,

as in my case i knowen my fiance for over 3 years I know him from head to toes ( he sais i know him better then he knows him self ) I would take it as an insolt if he would come up with that question before we get married ,

if you know someone long and well enough you should walk into the marriage without having the doubts that you might get riped off financuely , but if you only know your future spose for about a year or 2 and hardly ever met in real ( mostly just communicated on line or phone seen eachother once or twice during the relationship),

then yes i would say bring the subject to the attention, but would be careful in words and making sure the future spose is well informd that you love her/him

As a woman foreigner who insisted on a prenup

Yes, it is a must have

Even if you know someone head to tow, you never know what will this person become in the future, especially if they decide they don't love you anymore.

Soooo... you could approach it as "this is something that will surely never come into reality, but just in case it does, let's set the terms now when we love each other (instead of getting all lawyered up and shark like if divorce ever comes into a picture). Take the angle of making sure she is protected no matter what happens to your relantionship - and be reasonable in your prenup. Not like, if I am done with you, you walk away with nothing.

You can get prenup forms of the web and cheaply, like $30 or so. Although if you are so worried about a pre-nap you can probably afford a lawyer-made one

Lay off the insults, Epiphany. There is no call or excuse for your rude and attacking comment. Geez..the guy couldn't have been more honest and sensitive in the way he approached this delicate subject.

You're friends are probably on you about this cause of the way you met her. But you're the only one that can judge the way to approach this. Using the brain, it makes more sense to get a pre-nup. Using the heart and faith, it doesn't even make sense to get a pre-nup.

don't be pressured by your friends. you know your fiance best. none of us here know your circumstances. I personally would not have considered a pre nup since I know the circumstances my wife comes from in the Philippines.

Neither. Just insulted by you and the Sheriff. You - I could care less about. But the Sheriff's response was very surprising. He is usually very helpful. I come here with a sincere and difficult question and I feel I get slapped.

Mahalo for the thoughtful responses thusfar.

JoanBill...

By the by, my post earlier was a joke and that is why I put faces throughout the sentences to further assist in giving that vibe. If it was offensive, then I apologize, but my only attempt was to joke around. Like I do from time to time...

Truth is that a pre-nup is a matter of personally, and in some instances family, preference. IMO the pre-nup conversation would go over a lot easier if it were discussed upfront. That way, your fiancee, knows where you stand up front and grants her the opportunity to express her views without being so clouded with the development of the relationship and expectations of starting this new charter of her life with you. As previously stated, go from what is in your heart and instincts. Remember that pre-nups will not necessarily keep an ex-spouse away from your estate no matter how air tight it may seem.

Cheers!!!

He was only expressing the enlightenment of his Epiphany... Hehehehehe!!!

Mahalo Samby. You know, I've been on VJ.com for maybe 7 months and read it faithfully. I dont know if it's just me, but I sense the tone here at times has gotten more nasty and vengeful.

In the future, I'll try not to post things as itellectually or emotionally challanging.
