traveling to Mexico with greencard

We would liek to go to Mexico next year. My husband has his 2 year greencard already and it won't expire until april 2009.

HIs British passport will expire in a few months. Does he need this to travel out of the country or does he just need his green card and some other document ?

couple issues. hopefully someone will clear these up.

#1 To leave the country by plane, they were requiring that you have a valid passport. But that got postponed till ???. So, having a greencard should be enough.

The reason that was a requirement was they wanted to standardize your re-entry. So your hubby's Resident card should suffice for re-entry.

#2 Mexico's requirement for visitors. Unless they've changed the rules recently, you fill out the visitor's visa on your flight. As a citizen/per resident of USA, this was the sole requirement.

Having said, that, your best bet is to call the airline (assuming you are flying into Mexico) and ask them. They should know.

It is only US Citizens who are exempt from the passport requirements to re-enter the US by land from Mexico. Those who are not US citizens have the same requirements for entering the US from Mexico as they would have for entering the US from anywhere else. So I'm almost certain he needs to renew his passport.

Check the DHS website on the issue

He would need the passport anyway if the trip is by air (you don't say if it's by land or air). Also, the Mexican authorities may require it in order to enter Mexico, though I'm not sure of their requirements, nor of the consistency of their enforcement.

That only got postponed for US Citizens, and it's not back to the old way. Now, in order to enter by air without a passport, you have to show your receipt that demonstrates you've applied for your US passport, as well as showing proof of your identity and proof of your US Citizenship.

It was only delayed because the passport office couldn't make passports fast enough. So they let you get in with proof you've applied.

A UKC needs his Passport to enter Mexico.

He will need a Pasport and his GC to enter US.

He can renew his passport through the Embassy here, mine took 2 weeks. But I would send it in a month before the current one expires.
