Which Tax Transcript format should I include for I-864?

Dear all,

 

While filing I-864 to NVC, I realized there are actually 4 types of Tax Transcript availiable in IRS.gov.  

 

Should I use the first option " Return Transcript" ?  

 

Also, since we all just filed the tax for 2022, seems that 2022 is still "missing" .... is it OK with NVC?

You should have copies of your returns. You can submit those.

Transcripts are NOT required unless you are specifically requested to submit those.

They are interested in your INCOME, which is indicated on the tax return.

Well yes, but this confusion comes not from official instructions but posts here that just say Tax Transcript, when the instructions say "Tax Return Transcript", and other saying just tax return instead of "Complete copy of Tax Return including W2 and 1099 forms".

Well, yes - that's exactly why I try to point that out whenever anyone is thinking about delaying filing because they think they NEED the transcripts. What goes around simply CONTINUES going around.

 

But yes - it doesn't hurt to be completely specific.

The original question was which transcript to send.  The correct answer is the RETURN transcript.

Mike (pushbrk) is correct - the whole idea of what to send in is muddied - transcripts are NOT necessary. Especially in a case like this, where the original poster may consider DELAYING his filing and is apparently wondering whether "2022 is still "missing" .... is it OK with NVC?".
No, it's NOT okay. As of April 15, you should include a  "Complete copy of Tax Return including W2 and 1099 forms" if 2022 tax return transcripts are not available.

I know who Mike is.  Mike is always right.  No one is claiming otherwise. I have learned a great deal from him.
