Good morning,

My husband just got a notification that a second RFE is going to be sent out to us. The first one we responded to over a year ago giving more tax information and also resending out marriage certificate info. He is adjusting from a K1 visa and as we understood it they wouldn't need a copy of our medical exam because we filed within a year. But I am wondering if we misunderstood that? Obviously there is no RFE in the mail for us yet, but after getting a second RFE after a year of not hearing anything I am a bit worried it'll be another year until we hear anything. I am wondering a few things, how common is it to get a second RFE? Do they respond to second RFE's any faster than the first? Should we have submitted medical information? Any sort of insights would be wonderful if anyone has some. Thank you!

Are you able to see the second RFE letter on your online USCIS account? It should be available under “Documents” (or at least it was for us) even before you receive it in the mail.

We have a somewhat similar situation to you. Got an RFE about a month after first applying, then 14 months later got another RFE asking for our marriage certificate, even though I’m certain we had already submitted it. FWIW, if the second RFE was issued by your local USCIS field office, rather then the NBC, hopefully you won’t have to wait another year for a decision, though of course I can’t say for sure.

For our second RFE, issued in January of this year, it came from our field office and it said we should expect a response within 60 days of submitting our evidence. It’s been almost 60 days, and still no response, but at least we have a basis for inquiring about an update after the 60 days. Perhaps your second RFE will say something similar?

Not sure if this was helpful, but since your situation sounds similar to ours, just wanted to chime in. Hope you get good news soon, regardless!

That is all super helpful! Glad to hear we aren't alone in this situation and that we aren't just messing up our submissions lol. Ours should hopefully be in the local field office. It's definitely not at the NBC. Unfortunately online I can't see it but can request an online copy of I don't receive it by beginning of April

When you adjust status you must send the I-693 the beneficiary was given after the medical exam and it must state he voluntarily received all the vaccinations.
