K1 is usually a poor option but does not matter where you currently reside

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Hi everyone,

Do I have to reside in the US in order to apply and start the K1 VISA application for my fiance?  Would it be different if we decide to go through CR1?

You do not have to reside in the US to start the I-129F, but you do need to re-locate back to the US before the K1 interview to prove the I-134 financial support at some point.

Do some searches here in visajourney on the K1 vs CR1. Most seem to think CR1 is more advantageous. But you need to decide what is best for your specific situation.

If you live together abroad, K-1 makes NO sense whatsoever.
