Photos for I-130

The instruction seem to indicate you need to have the normal go to the drug store and get passport photos for the I-130.

When filling the online application it talks about using their photo tool on travel.state.gov to crop your photos correctly which makes it sound like you can take your own.

"If you need help understanding the photo requirements or want to resize, rotate, or crop your photo, you can use to the Department of State's photo composition tools."

The online instructions talk about "Also, include an image of the back of the photograph with your name and A-Number written in pen or pencil."

If I am able to take my own photos and upload them I wouldn't be printing them out to write on the back of the photo...

Is there a point in which we will have to give them actual physical passport photos? Can I actually just take a picture of myself and use the crop tool and upload? If so do I need to print them out and print my name with no A-number because we don't have one of those?

Thanks for the help

My husband and I just took a picture using his phone with the bathroom's door as the background, since it's a blank white door and there is plenty of lighting around the area. Tongue in cheek we took a picture of his phone with a scrap piece of paper with his name on the back to be included.

We got approved, so I am glad the reviewing agent had a sense of humor. 💁‍♀️

The directions are largely for the people who mail in their packages. Digital photos can't get physically lost from their packages like loose photos from the drug store can, and not to mention it's physically impossible to write on the back of them. Don't worry too much, just take some good close up shots as per the directions and ignore the writing side.

No need to write any A number anything at the back. I never did and I'm a citizen now.

You can use the crop tool on the website. I took my own pictures, used the crop tools, printed from my printer, took it to PP center with no problems at all.

You can take your own picture for I-130

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.
