Hello! New user here. I just recently got married to my Russian husband, who is currently residing in Armenia due to the war. He has no intentions of ever returning to Russia.

I am the US citizen petitioner filling out the I-130, and in the "Information about beneficiary in their native written language" section, it's asking for his name and address in his native language. His name I understand should be in Cyrillic, but the address he's living at right now is Armenian. Should that also be in Cyrillic, or should it be in Armenian?

Thanks!

If I recall correctly, it says enter information in their native language if that information can't be written with "latin english" letters. So no, for a Russian citizen you don't need to enter anything in Cyrillic, or Armenian. Just write the English version of everything: names, addresses, etc.

This is not correct.  For a Russian not living in Russia, only the name would be entered in Cyrillic.  The old instructions were a little clearer, as they used the term alphabet rather than language.

The reason this is necessary is that "transliteration" is not always precise, particularly with names.  When different alphabets are involved, it's called transliteration, not just translation.  This can be quite problematic with Chinese, for example.  We used to have to provide the telegraphic code for the Chinese name in addition to the Chinese characters and transliteration.

Thank you for the clarification! I’m still confused about the Armenian address, though. Armenian has its own script as well, not Roman/Latin letters. Am I writing his name in Cyrillic and his address in Armenian script?

That would be correct, yes.
