Interview scheduling timelines - Australia - how does it work?

Hi

Does anyone know the current timelines for scheduling immigrant (we are IR1) interviews in Australia? We are documentarily qualified, but waiting to hear from the NVC as to when our interview in Australia will be (and the Sydney consulate is not fully operational at the moment). How much notice do you normally get ahead of when your interview will be? (e.g. will I know a month in advance? two months?). I'm wondering how much time I will have to prepare flights, medical appointment, take time off work, etc. I read somewhere that the NVC always contacts people in the middle of the month for all interviews in the following month - is this true? Thanks!

It is usually about 4-6 weeks notice. You wont have any issues booking the medical or getting AFP police check done in that time. Don't book any flights yet. If you do book after you get the interview date but before you have the interview ( advice from consulate is DONT.. ).. make sure you can live with the costs of cancellation /rebooking etc 

 

NVC tends to assigns appts late in the month through the first week of the next month, so lots of people do find out mid month.. but there is nothing regular or predictable about USCIS process or immigration
