We just got the good news that our request for expedited processing got accepted by the NVC.  I am a US citizen sponsoring my wife who is an Indian citizen.  The NVC informed us that the interview for my wife at the Mumbai Consulate will be handled by the Embassy/Consulate directly.

Does anyone know what the next steps are:

Do we need to contact the Mumbai Consulate for an interview or should we wait for them to contact us?

Do we need to start the medical related process immediately or wait until an interview is scheduled?

How long does it typically take to get an interview after acceptance of expedite request?

My stepson's passport is expiring in June 2022.  Should we start the process of renewing his passport now since the Consulate will need at least 6-8 months expiry date after interview? Or, should we wait until the interview, get the stamp, and then renew the passport and get the new passport re-stamped?  Just worried that if I start the passport renewal process now and we get a sudden interview call then the passport will not be available.  Renewing passport in India could be a lengthy process!

So much confusion 🙂

Would appreciate any informed views!  Thank you!

Please do a timeline

if wife,  this is spouse visa and u wait for them to schedule the interview

If spouse ,  have u paid the AOS and ds 260 fees and filled out the needed documents?

u can not do the medical till u receive the notice for interview and have a document in hand to take to dr appointment

and yes,  i would start the process to renew the passport / the interview still will not happen as fast as u would like  (only my opinion)

Congratulations for the successful expedite. Do keep us in the loop when there are further developments.

Also, could you please share your reasons to expedite? We have applied for an expedite on medical grounds (the petitioner, my husband, has multiple serious health issues) so I was wondering if anyone else from India is in the same boat.

Greatly appreciate your response and suggestions.

Timeline started with application for I-130 in May 2020.  Got DQed by NVC in July 2021.

Yes, we have paid the fees.  This was a requirement for online submission of the AOS and DS 260.

Ok, we will for the interview notice.

Agreed...  We will start the passport renewal process asap!

Thanks again!

Thanks!  I cannot get into the details but we have a medical emergency, and other serious issues and so we made an earnest plea!

There is no harm in trying when your reasons are truly urgent and genuine.

Good luck to you!

Can you share your experience on the expedition, what actual reason did you give that made them accept.
