Hi all,

maybe someone can help me with this. I just spoke with USCIS with regards to my interview that was scheduled. I asked if it is a combo interview as I’ve received no notification about the I-751. The lady explained it is an interview for N400 and they will instruct me there what is happening with my I-751. I explained to her that without my I-751 I wouldn’t be able to do my N400. She passed it off saying I just need to attend the interview that I’ve been called for.

I am wrong to think I need to be interviewed for both? I-751 before my N400?

My experience with the tier 1 helpline people is that they only seem to know pretty much the same information as shown on the online service.

It will likely be a combo interview, either way, you should just go along and see what happens.

Just spoke with a helpful rep and she stated that if I just have my citizenship interview then that will remain pending until my I-751 comes up. 😒 my tier 1 request went in and I have to wait 30 days!

Yes, they won't be able to approve your N-400 until the I-751 is approved.

They will interview you for the N-400 when you go there, and may also interview you for the I-751. If they don't, it doesn't necessary mean you'll have to have another interview for the I-751 though, as the majority don't get interviewed for it.

Thank you for your help! I’m trying not to stress about it. It has been a long wait and anything is one step closer to the goal. You definitely have helped calm the nerves! Just going to go with the flow and see what happens.

Three things can happen:

1. The IO has received your i-751 in time for the N-400 interview and you will have a combo interview.

2. They have not received your i-751 but will still continue with the N-400 interview anyway. Afterwards you will have to wait for the i-751 to be approved before you can be scheduled for an oath ceremony. In rare cases we have seen applicants being called in for a second interview (this time for the i-751), if an ROC interview is required. In the absolute majority of cases the N-400 interview is enough and the i-751 will be adjudicated without an interview in this scenario.

3. They don't know what they're doing, see your pending i-751 in the system and haven't received it yet, and decides to reschedule your N-400 interview until they have received the i-751.

We have seen all of the above happen to people who are members here on VJ and in N-400 groups on Facebook. All of the above are possible outcomes in regards to the N-400 interview.
