Less than 6 months on Passport beyond US entry

Hello,

I had my interview on May 5th and my medical on May 24th. To be able to attend my medical I had to keep my passport, and will have to ship it back to the Embassy (in Paris, FR) once my medical is approved. During the medical, the doctor informed me that the medical had an approval date for June 7th (doctor will be back from holidays on that day, plus that gave me time to get my missing vaccinations). According to that, my K-1 will be expiring in the beginning of December. I don't know for sure when I'll be flying to the US, but I'm thinking somewhere between September and November. My passport expires in March '22. My country (Portugal) only allows passport renewal 6 months before the expiration, with few valid exceptions.

I'm thinking about shipping my current passport to the Embassy so my K-1 can be issued, and getting a renewal before I travel to the US. Will bringing both my old and new passports pose any problems upon entry, or is it preferrable to try to get it renewed right now?

Thank you.

You should not have any issues, many folks travel this way.  I still have a couple of valid visas in my old passport, and when I travel to those countries, I have to take both the new passport and the expired one containing the valid visas and there were no issues.

Good Luck!
