Hello, my dad is very sick in Peru. I would like to visit him in Peru. My Venezuelan passport expired last year. I have read that the Venezuelan passport is recognized for up to 5 years from the expiration date. I am looking to apply for a visa from Peru. Has anyone here traveled with expired Venezuelan passport? and if I have a valid visa from Peru would that be enough evidence?

Also, to add more complication to this issue my greencard expired. I have an I-797 to extend the greencard for another 18 months while I wait for AOS processing. Is that enough evidence to get back into the U.S.?

I wouldn't ask these questions if it wasn't urgent. My dad is very sick and I would at least like to see him if possible.

Does anyone have any experience with this that can provide some insight?

You would need to check with the Peruvian embassy whether or not they will accept your Venezuelan passport. The US will accept it for return according to the DoS reciprocity pages.

I don’t understand what you mean by your green card has expired but you are still waiting for AOS processing? how can you have a green card if AOS is not complete? Anyway the following list are acceptable documents for airlines to board you for return to the US:

B. U.S. RESIDENTS — must provide one of the following:
• Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551
• Expired Conditional Resident Card, Form I-551 accompanied by Form I-797, Notice of Action indicating the card validity is extended
• Immigrant Visa and passport
• Temporary Residence Stamp (“ADIT”) contained in a passport or on Form I-94
• Reentry Permit, Form I-327
• Refugee Travel Document, Form I-571
• Parole Authorization, Form I-512
• U.S. Government issued Transportation Letter /Lincoln Boarding Foil
