Police reports, validity issue

Hi everyone,

Hoping to get some clear answers here.

So, we have applied for the K1 and waiting for our NOA1. As for the police reports, I know we have to get one from all countries where we have lived 6 months or more after the age of 17.

Keeping that in mind, I have two countries.

-My home country

-My current residence country

I haven't lived in my home country for more the 6 months since 2013. I only go for yearly vacation, maybe 2-4 weeks.

The question is can I go ahead and get my police report from there as I do not intend to move back there whilst this process is going on? Is there a validity to these reports in the eyes of the embassy.

For my current residence country I am hoping to get it closer to when I have a decision (NOA2).

Thanks for the input!

They’re generally valid for a year.

“Important: Police certificates expire after one year, unless the certificate was issued from your country of previous residence and you have not returned there since the police certificate was issued. If at the time of your interview the following three items are all true, you must bring a new police certificate to your visa interview:

  • You are more than 16 years old;
  • The police certificate submitted to NVC was obtained more than one year ago; and
  • You still live in the country that issued the certificate.”
