Hello.

My wife and I are just starting our visa process. She’s an American citizen and we’re looking at moving over there as soon as possible.

I received my police certificate yesterday and it says no live trace on. I’ve spoken to ACRO this morning. Turns out I have two convictions - great. I didn’t even know about one of them, which was from when I was 15 (a charge of damage to property of £5000 or less) and the other from when I was 22/23 years old of disorderly behaviour and/or using threatening or abusive language at a football match, which I was given a 12 month conditional discharge for, which passed without incident. I haven’t been in trouble since then.

I think the best course of action would be get the SAR while I have the time to do and also get some character references from my in-laws. All I can do when the time comes is be honest and transparent. I don’t feel like I have anything to hide.

Would you agree with this?

Thanks in advance.

Well you can not hide anything and not sure what use character references from the in laws would achieve, not needed. The issue is whether they fall under the definition of CIMT and need a waiver.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I wouldn’t even try to hide it. The only reason I would use a character reference is purely because of the jobs my in-laws do. It was just a thought.

I can’t see either of those things falling under the CIMT bracket, surely?...
