Hi,

My parents have lost there original Urdu Nikah Nama but they do have a photocopy of it. We also have NADRA marriage certificate .

We are required to submit civil documents to NVC but since we do not have original (scanned) urdu nikah nama ,how should we proceed?

I am looking for the answer to the following questions:

1. How to get certified and attested nikah nama in Karachi,Pakistan?

2. Do I need to submit original(scanned) urdu nikah nama or scan copy of photocopy will work?

3.If I submit the scanned photocopy of urdu nikah nama do I need to inform NVC in writing that I have lost the original one?

4. Anyone aware of the process to get another copy of urdu nikah nama?if so please guide.

5. Does re-registered urdu nikah nama will work instead or original one?

Look forward for your knowledgeable answers.

You are also welcome to share your person experience

Thanks in advance

Notes:

This marriage is approx 35 year old

Regarding obtaining copies:

You can go to the Union Council where their marriage was registered.  You will notice that the Nikah Nama has references to a book number, volume number, etc.  They can look at the old records and make a copy for you.  If they can't find it, they may be able to provide a certified letter (stamped/signed) saying that we looked, but cannot find the original of this.

Don't re-register the nikah nama.  That will only create more problems, and the UC won't let you do it anyways.
