My wife is a permanent resident here in US. We have a son that was born here (US citizen) 4 months ago. She wants to travel in the next few weeks to Philippines with him. Does my wife and son both need a visa to enter Philippines? My wife has her Philippine passport which is good until October of 2021. Thanks for your help.

Visa would be needed for your son, unless you get his Philippine passport (he is a dual citizen).

From what I have heard the Philippine consulates are not issuing the visas.  And are not completing passport applications either.  But with this beer virus things are changing continually.

We are in the process of scheduling that right now...just talked with US passport agency and they said the soonest I can apply for passport appointment is this Wednesday November 25. Very few appointment slots available at the few passport agencies near me for expediting.

After the son gets the U.S. passport, I think he qualifies to travel to the Philippines with his mother, under the current restrictions.  The embassies in the U.S. are issuing 9a visas to people who meet the criteria.  An American friend and his Filipina wife came in a few weeks ago.  He got his 9A at the San Francisco embassy, all done remotely from Washington St.

Mom might want to look into a Philippine passport for him while she is there, and renew hers.  If you go to DFA with a baby, you go right to the front of the line; no waiting, and do your renewal at the same time.

Downside is, Covid test required on arrival, at least one night in a hotel waiting the result, then if you pass the test, 14 day quarantine at your destination.

May want to review that - since June 2020, passport renewal has been by appointment only, even for minors (source)

Also, at least for Manila, the appointment slots are booked until Feb 2021. Maybe the provincial offices have more available slots.

I stand corrected.  I was going by our pre-Covid experiences with our kids.
