Name different on Appointment Letter for Oath Taking Ceremony

Hello eveyone,

 

I am scheduled for my Oath taking Ceremony next month however My Name is different on the appointment letter and on my online USCIS account.

 

A little background,

 

my maiden name is:

Kim Sigourney Adona Roldan (Adona - mother’s maiden name, Roldan - Father’s last name)

 

Married name is:

Kim Sigourney Roldan Valledor

 

During my Citizenship interview, the IO said she will be legally changing my middle name from, “Adona” to “Roldan”. 

 

I told her, yes, that was legally changed when I got married. She said no, “I’m legally changing it now for your N400.“ I agreed and trusted her because I know she knew better.

 

Upon signing, I saw that my current name was, “Kim Sigourney Adona Valledor,“

changing to “Kim Sigourney Roldan Valledor” which again confused me and I told her my current name is Kim Sigourney Roldan Valledor. I asked her again and she said it’s just for the system. 

 

Has anyone gone through this?  I’m really worried because I didn’t request for a name change and it’s been tough trying to contact someone through the phone. Do I request for a infopass appointment?

Your ability to change your name through marriage depends on state law. Here in Washington, your last name can be changed using a marriage certificate, but your middle name cannot be changed that easily. So that may be what the IO was referring to, to make your new name fully legal even though you thought it was already. My wife just had her middle name changed by a judge as a part of the petition she filed to change her daughter's last name to be the same as her new married last name. Changing a child's last name can get complicated, so we didn't want that to get mixed up in the citizenship process.

 

I didn't understand your paragraph about the signing.

I think you’re correct. I just called Orange County, CA where we got married and I was told that when we got married, my middle name and last name were both legally changed.

 

oh sorry, during the Citizenship interview, there’s a paragraph on the ipad where you sign your name changes..
