Hi guys!

So we filed my Affidavit of Support (I-864) using my 2019 tax return rather than my transcript. IRS incorrectly put me down as a non-filer in 2019, which means my available transcript lists an income of $1 for 2019 🤦‍♀️ I supplied my tax return to the NVC (plus all schedules, etc) to show my actual income.

The IRS know about the error and should hopefully be processing my accurate return as we speak, but with the IRS backlog, it could be months before we have access to the accurate transcript.

How common is it that the consulate asks for a full tax transcript after you apply with a return? Do they always ask before issuing the visa? Or do they often just accept the return with no further inquiry?

If they ask specifically for your transcript, and it hasn't been corrected, I would provide them with copies of my correspondence with the IRS explaining the issue.

Depending on the embassy (and you do not list one).  it is

and you state you are self employed,  making it more of an issue without W2 , there is no way (other than a tax transcript) to prove income

Thanks for your reply. The embassy would be London.

I’m not sure why they state that you can substitute the return for the transcript if that’s not actually the case then. Frustrating for sure.

That’s a good idea! Unfortunately all my correspondence with the IRS on the issue has been over the phone, but I wonder if I can get them to respond to an email. Feels unlikely.

U can when you have any type of wage statement like W2 or 1099 or 1099R, etc to back up the income claim

Probably not ,  but worth a try,   more than likely you will have to wait to get the transcripts

try to send an email that they would have to send back a response to

Oh, well I do have 1099s and I submitted those. Along with bank statements and a letter from a client I contract with verifying our ongoing relationship. So maybe that’ll be enough.
