My wife is waiting for her interview to be scheduled at the embassy in her country of residence. I (the petitioner) am aware that her interview may not be for a long time due to the circumstances of the covid 19 pandemic, civil unrest and crime  in her home country, and ultimately backlogs once they do resume interviews. Moreover, my problem is that I want to start a new job as I'm looking to change careers. I'm hesitant to do so because I am wary as to the confusion this may cause for my wife and the consulate officer at the time of the interview. On all of the paperwork from the I-130 to the DS-260 my current profession and job is listed. I'm assuming  that ideally drastic lifestyle changes are better to be delayed during the CR1/IR1 process. However, I may be missing out on better employment opportunities financially and for other reasons. Please share your thoughts and opinions.

You can find a a new job during this time. I wouldn’t recommend quitting one without another lined up however. You would submit a new I864 with your updateD Job Information and paystubs when she has her interview. If changes careers is best for you don’t let this concern get in your way. Plenty of people change jobs during the process. If it makes you feel any better you can have a joint sponsor lined up just in case.

Apply for Social Security Card: 12/30/14 Connecticut

Marriage: 1/26/15

It will not cause confusion at the consulate.  People change jobs all the time.  She should just take an updated I-864 to her interview.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..
