I-864 and Tax Release Authorization

Hi,

I received our I-864 today and it scares the hell out of me...My income for 2005 did not make the cut, as I lost a business-but thankfully, my sister will be helping us by co-sponsoring.

I am all set with my 3 years of tax transcripts (2003, and 2004) and a copy of 2005's. My sister is almost all ready to go as well, with her 2003 and 2004-although she e-filed today and now has to wait 2 days to get a copy...

I only saw one "tax release authorization" form in the envelope and I am now under the impression that our co-sponsor needs one too. Of course, I realized this after I filled it out and could not make her a copy.

Am I right in assuming she needs one too??

Any advice of getting another one for her?

Should I have the NVC fax one over to her???

I saw one on the 'Shortcuts" page, but do not know how to change the case number...If I were to do that and generate the bar code, how should it be affixed???

Please help !!

Thanks,

Rose

Rose,

The NVC have stated in the past that only one tax authorisation is needed. However, it is a simple matter of photocopying the one you have and completing it for the Joint Sponsor. Doesn't hurt.

Hi-Thanks guys...

I wrote that Q rather late, and really did not expect many responses until today...

Here's what happened...

I filled out the tax auth. and realized that she may have needed one-then panic ensued, as I couldn't find the actual form on the USCIS site...

No worries, as I finally located the form in the "shortcuts" page 30 minutes and 50 gray hairs later...

Then I went and created the barcode for it.

I had to open up the form in Word Perfect, which made it a bit of a pain. I had to do a few things to doctor it, but by 3:00AM, it was lookin' really sharp.

I went to bed with a clear head, and impressed with my resourcefulness -LOL Needless to say, I am shattered today from having only 4 hours of sleep. But, I have a lovely document which will give me peace of mind now !!!

Thanks Again Lorelle & Sanc !

I simply made a photocopy of mine and sent that one in.

That is the easiest way to do so...but I filled mine in before realizing that there was only one inside the envelope.

Here is how I did it:

(I cut & pasted this for you...hope it works. If not-go to NVC Timesavers and scroll down till you see it)

In addition to the I-864, you must generate and fill out an Authorization for Release of Federal Tax Data. Download the MS Word copy of the Authorization for Release of Federal Tax Data (available by clicking HERE). Under the barcode, type in your case number. At the bottom of the page, replace the entire phrase "XXX City" with the name of the city in which the embassy interview will take place (i.e., the "post" in Department of State parlance). So if the embassy interview is to take place in Caracas, Venezuela, delete "XXX City" and type in "CARACAS" (all caps).

Next, replace the sample barcode in the Authorization with one generated at http://www.idautomation.com/java/linearservlet.html. Under "Barcode symbology," select CODE 39. Select "No" for the "Add check digit," "Add check digit to text," and "Show text below barcode" options. Change the "X dimension" (bar width) to 0.05 and the "Barcode bar height" to 0.5. Click on "Create Barcode." In the resulting window, right click on the generated barcode and left click on Copy. Go to the Word copy of the Authorization, select the original barcode, and hit the Delete key. Then click on Paste under the Edit menu (or hit Ctrl + V on the keyboard). The barcode you generated should be in the exact same place as the original one you deleted

Good Luck...let me know if you have any difficulty, and I will do my best to help.

For me, there hasn't been anything as stressful as this form-given all the hassle I have had with co-sponsors backing out, and a whole myriad of financial issues from last year (which are thankfully ancient history ).

I would be happy to help allieviate some stress.

: )
